Anticancer effect
Many evidences support the role of limonene in cancer prevention and treatment. In vivo studies have found that limonene has chemopreventive effects on the initiation and promotion of cancer in a variety of cancer systems, including chemical carcinogens-induced breast, skin, liver, lung and precancerous cancer models in rodents.
Other roles
It is possible to inhibit cholesterol synthesis by inhibiting the activity of HMG-CoA reductase, a rate-limiting enzyme that inhibits cholesterol synthesis. Gallbladder drainage with a mixture of 97% d-limonene can effectively dissolve cholesterol stones left over from patients with post-operative stones.
